Three-year-old Shalimar Moon made a stunning return to racing with a barnstorming finish to score at Seymour on Sunday.
The lightly raced filly had been off the scene for 15 months after placing in her first campaign at Geelong and with the benefit of time could not have been more impressive landing the Bet365 Maiden Plate (1000m).
Trainer Vin Malady said there were hopes of a forward showing fresh on the back of the filly’s recent jumpout wins at Burrumbeet and Geelong and that it was pleasing to see her take that form to the races.
“She’s quite a promising filly and will improve over more ground,” Vincent said.
“She’s had a few issues we needed to sort out, but she had jumped out well.
“Over 1000m we wanted to ride her a bit cold and see if she could finish off over the top of them and she did it well.”
By Woodside Park sire Shalaa, Shalimar Moon is from More Than Ready mare Romantic Moon.
Owners Hirsch Racing purchased Romantic Moon for $200,000 when she was carrying Shalimar Moon at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in May 2020.
Romantic Moon’s other winners are Buzzer Beater, Grinzinger Knight, and Royal Monarch.
Jockey Mitch Aitken said he let Shalimar Moon find her comfort zone midfield and the strong pace suited her.
“I let her do her own thing early and made sure she was happy, and we picked our way through.”
Shalimar Moon ($10) scored by a long neck from Fridge Monster ($4.80) and Benriach ($8).
