Eight-year-old mare Chelsea Toff added to her profitable run for Geelong stable foreman Asher Trom-Wright when she upstaged her more fancied Malady Racing stablemate Carolina Sunrise at Echuca.

Chelsea Toff ($26) was lucky to get a start as the second emergency and made the most of her opportunity, charging home from second last to score in a photo finish from Turnaquid ($16), with five-year-old Carolina Sunrise ($11) 1-1/4 lengths away third.

Asher bought Chelsea Toff for just $3000 as a tried six-year-old in July last year and she has repaid his faith with two wins, two seconds, two fourths from 11 starts since debuting for the stable in November.

“She’s a very honest mare,” trainer Vincent Malady said.

“She’s earned just shy of $45,000 for Asher and I think he can look forward to building on that bank the way she won at Echuca.”

Jockey Fred Kersley rode for luck on the daughter of Toorak Toff who he eased back at the start from her wide barrier before improving to just off midfield passing the 600 metres.

Parked behind a wall of horses on the home turn, she beat Turnaquid to an opening gap while the runner-up was forced to take a path closer to the rail which proved even more beneficial as the daughter of Star Turn speared between the leaders to hit the front passing the 100 metres.

With Carolina Sunrise on her outside, Chelsea Toff sprinted strongly and chased down Turnaquid to win on the line.

Chelsea Toff lined up for her fifth run this campaign after a series of midfield finishes while Carolina Sunrise also improved on her first three runs this preparation.
