Holy Heart too slick at Warracknabeal
Sep 09, 2012
Vin Malady Racing picked up its second winner in the space of three days when Holy Heart produced a tough performance to claim the Donald Mineral Sand Handicap (1200m) at Warracknabeal.
Pelikaan Straat won at Geelong on Friday before Holy Heart earned his first win for the stable 48 hours later.
Holy Heart started his career with the Gai Waterhouse stable before clients of Vin Malady Racing purchased the son of Holy Roman Emperor after he had won a maiden at Newcastle in his previous preparation.
The four-year-old turned in a reasonable midfield effort at his first run for the stable at Echuca before heading to Warracknabeal for the $15,000 event.
Emerging apprentice Josh Cartwright took the reins on Holy Heart again at Warracknabeal, capitalising on a good barrier to drive the speedy gelding along the inside to share the speed before easing off the tempo midrace.
Holy Heart rounded the home turn in front before fighting hard to stave off the challenge of the Darren Weir stable resident Spiritcity.
The win was Holy Heart’s second from seven starts but, more importantly, the gelding gave his connections a quick return instalment on his purchase price.
Congratulations to Holy Heart’s owners - T G Scanlon, A D Patterson, O L Smith, P A Toleman, P F Rocash, W McTaggart, T R McKenzie, D Radcliffe, P Maddock, A W Saltalamacchia & B J Hellard.
